Studio 62 in Eureka Springs is gearing up for the Third Annual Art as Prayer Exhibition--their invitational show coinciding with the Eureka Springs Fine Arts Festival and the National Day of Prayer, all occurring during the month of May.  The artist’s reception will be held at Studio 62 Eureka Springs on Friday May 9, 2008 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

This is a very popular and eclectic show—presenting the theme in a wide range of artistic interpretations by artists of various faiths.  The scope of previous works has included prophetic art, biblical paintings, three dimensional shrines, traditional figurative paintings, photographs, and found-art sculptures.

The 2006 exhibit was a particularly memorable event, from the moment Dee Landerman pulled up with her life-sized sculpture of a nun in full habit, shoulder-harnessed into the passenger seat of her minivan.  World-renowned calligrapher and Eureka Springs' own Charles Pearce added depth to the show with his exceptional works--some Scripture-based and one show-stopping visual statement on world hunger.

The exhibit for this year is shaping up to be another great one.  Many new participants are invited, creating a pleasing mix of established artists and those that have not had many opportunities to show their work. Returning artists are Ron Lutz, Jody Stephenson, Dee Landerman, Gerry and Rosalie Toler, Brandon Hudson, John Willer, Mary Springer, Carol Peacock, and many others. New artists include Scott Broyles, Mike Butler, Mel Shipley, Sara and Terry Russell.

Jody Stephenson will be unveiling her new series of prophetic paintings and featuring her recently-published book Faltering Towards Perfection: Art, Faith, and Everything In Between (see book preview tab on navigation bar) .  A new feature this year will be works by the Christian Creative Writers Group that meets weekly at Studio 62.

The entire 2008 exhibit will be posted on the brand new website Fellowship-of-Christian-Artists-and-Writers.com after the first week of May. An extended on-line version of the exhibition will be ongoing throughout the coming year.  Christian artists and writers are invited to participate.  Plans are currently under development for on-line multimedia presentation of performance art as well.
