(Plein Air Painters of Eureka Springs)

Here is our little band of guerilla painters
engaged in a stealth operation: trying to paint the depot before the train begins its daily run. Pictured are Susan DeRosa and Jody Stephenson.
I am
happy to report that no one was injured in the performance of this mission!

Here's Jody's painting (in progress) of the Eureka Springs
Train Depot. This is a historic station which has been featured in movies and television series, including The Blue and
the Gray. The excursion train still runs for tourists.
Ron Lutz (Jody's husband) is the plein air photographer of the group.
He takes photos for his gallery while the group is out on location, but he is also doing a bit of photojournalism by documenting
the group's activities. He's getting pretty artistic in the photograph!

| Jody on Crescent Hotel balcony |
Here's Jody Stephenson painting on the top
deck of the historic Crescent Hotel overlooking the entire town of Eureka Springs. There is outdoor seating on the deck for
the bar, so you can enjoy a drink while soaking up one of the best views in the Ozarks. You can see the Christ of the
Ozarks statue, the historic downtown shops, and the Victorian homes of Eureka Springs--all against the tree-studded backdrop
of the Ozark hills. Jody's painting includes St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church which is situated just below the Crescent
Hotel and is featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not because of the unusual bell tower entrance.

| 30x40" oil on canvas |
Here
is the finished painting. It is a 30x40 inch oil on stretched canvas, currently on display at the Inn of the Ozarks. The hazy
bluish greens of the distant hills provide dramatic contrast to the yellow greens of summer. The red-orange
tiled roof of St. Elizabeth's stands like a jewel in a sea of greens.
The complementary acrylic underpainting peeks through here and there to spice things
up. This is a method of painting learned from Jody's teacher in Colorado, Barbara Marquardt, author of Painting in Layers:
the Marquardt Method. (It's a great book that can be ordered on-line.)
Here is another painting from the garden area of the Crescent Hotel--looking down on St. Elizabeth's.
The finished painting is called, "July at St.
Elizabeth's." The oil painting is 16"x20" on stretched canvas. You can view it, and all the other plein air paintings by Jody at Studio 62 on Highway
62 in Eureka Springs.
Here's
Jody painting a boat near the Golden Gate Bridge at the town of Beaver. Ron is in the background in his boat. Local author and former mayor of Beaver, also professional
photographer, Jim Young, took this picture. The
town of Beaver is an undiscovered paradise--a small town at water's edge. Great fishing, camping, and just plain living.
